What’s Going on in That Better Call Saul Season 6 Trailer?

Better Call Saul season 6 will finally arrive on Sunday, April 18, on AMC. Ahead of its release, the network has shared its first look at this final run of episodes. What started as a prequel series to Breaking Bad focusing on everyone’s favorite disreputable lawyer has shifted into a tragicomic character study about how we create our own identities, how the perceptions of others color our self-image, and what it means to be a “good” lawyer. Also, the drug trafficking world set-up in Breaking Bad has increasingly crept into focus, with the ill-fated war between Gus Fring and the Salamanca family heating to a boil.

Set to Andy Williams’ “Days of Wine and Roses,” this first Better Call Saul season 6 trailer doesn’t offer too many concrete details, but there’s a lot you can infer based on what’s shown. Check out the first look below:

First and foremost, the transformation from Jimmy McGill to Saul Goodman appears to be complete, with the latter’s infamous “LWYRUP” license plate coming into view. Clients are packed into Mrs. Nguyen’s nail salon waiting to talk to the lawyer that represents the notorious Salamanca family, and while more business is good, that sort of reputation can come with its complications as well.

We also see Howard Hamlin featured prominently. While shooting down his overtures to join HHM last season, Jimmy also relentlessly trolled Hamlin with prostitutes and even a bowling ball through his car windshield. The season ended with Kim suggesting that they do even more to damage Hamlin’s reputation so that Jimmy can get his cut of the Sandpiper settlement. This war isn’t over, as we can assume Kim is asking Howard if he’s pursuing legal action against Jimmy. We also see Howard with Clifford Main (Ed Begley Jr.), Jimmy’s former employer. Perhaps Cliff will represent Howard in a case against Jimmy?

Speaking of Kim, the trailer suggests that she may be in danger this season, something that Better Call Saul fans have been worried about, since the character never appears or is referenced during the Breaking Bad timeline. This could be a red herring, but the editing of the montage seems to indicate that danger is coming to her and Jimmy’s door, something that could leave Kim shaking in her heels. We did see the emergence of “Slippin’ Kimmy” at the end of last season, but could fear set her back on the straight and narrow?

Finally, the trailer shows a ton of action happening between Gus Fring and the Salamancas. We know that Nacho betrayed the Salamancas in an attempted hit on Lalo, but the devious villain survived the attack on his compound, and it’s clear he knows who is responsible. We see Nacho in several compromising, dangerous situations throughout the trailer, so we know that he’ll be on the run from retaliation. Luckily, he’ll have Mike Ehrmantraut in his corner, but Lalo appears to have his help as well. We know that the twins will be back in all of their terrifying glory, but we also get a glimpse of Breaking Bad heavy Tuco Salamanca, who hasn’t been spotted on this series since Season 1.

Luckily, after almost two years absent, we’re only a matter of weeks away from having these questions answered. As sad as we’ll be to see this exemplary series go, we couldn’t be more thrilled to dive into Better Call Saul season 6. Something tells me that there will be little to no wine and roses in the final season, but plenty of something else that shares wine and roses’ hue.
